Werner J. Hannappel, Arctic Sea, 2000

The Arctic Ocean, Iceland, Norway or Scotland are the places Werner J. Hannappel approaches with his camera and captures in his landscape photographs.

With their very own mysterious and poetic atmosphere, they immediately cast a spell on the viewer. Pervaded by a palpable silence and solitude, an endless depth and unlimited expanse stretches beyond the horizon. Empty of people and without any cultural signs, the elements of nature alone fill the picture. It is the planes of sky, landscape, sea, light and darkness that Hannappel uses and composes with. He takes their natural, unchanging and recurring regularities and gives them a metaphysical dimension that seems timeless.
